The presentation was made Dec. 21 at Cobequid Educational Centre, during a small and intimate ceremony.
The Governor General Medal and Queen Elizabeth Medal have previously been awarded during graduation ceremonies. There is a directive stating that these medals must be based on final grades and not anticipated or predicated grades. Final IB grades are not available until late summer.
The Governor General Medal, established in 1873, recognizes Lynds as the student who has achieved the highest academic average based on their final grade 11 and grade 12 marks.
Sampson is recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Medal. It is awarded to the graduating student who has demonstrated a superior achievement in school studies in all three years of high school; has achieved an outstanding record in all aspects of school and community involvement; and is graduating after having satisfied the requirements for a Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma.
