VALDOSTA Charges have been filed against a 25 year old man arrested in connection with the stabbing of his wife early Saturday morning, according to the Valdosta Police Department Monday.

Tyler Phillips, 25, of Valdosta ischarged with aggravated assault with other charges pending, a VPD report states. The investigation is still ongoing.

The report states a 29 year old woman called 911 and said her husband had stabbed her. When patrol officers arrived on scene, they found the victim with stab wounds to her face and abdomen area.

Police began emergency medical care, called EMS, and the victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center, according to the report. Saturday, her condition was critical.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the suspect had fled, the report states.

The Valdosta Police K9 unit tracked him to the area around St. Augustine and James roads but were unable to locate the suspect. Valdosta police detectives and crime scene technicians from the Regional Crime Lab also responded to the scene.

Around two hours after the incident, based on additional follow up information, a Valdosta Police K9 Unit tracked the suspect to the side of a residence in the 1700 block of North Troup Street, where he was found hiding, according to the report.

The suspect was also taken to SGMC from injuries he received during the domestic dispute with his wife. He was later taken to the Lowndes County Jail. Charges were still pending Saturday morning.

“Although I am proud of how quickly the offender was captured by patrol and detective personnel, right now our priority is the victim and our prayers go out to her,” VPD Chief Brian Childress said. “This was senseless and should not have happened.”
