Choosing a birth control method is one of the most personal health care decisions a woman makes. In nearly four decades of childbearing years, your need for birth control will most likely change many times. But at each life stage, you can make informed decisions by learning about all your contraceptive options and selecting one or more that best fits your reproductive health needs.

Many women are not adequately protected from an unwanted pregnancy by their choice of birth control method. In fact, according to the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth, about half of all pregnancies are unplanned. Of these unplanned pregnancies, almost half of the women were using some form of birth control.

There are several reasons for failure of contraception,
dr martens original Birth Control and Contraceptions Fresno CA
including inappropriate use (for example, not inserting a diaphragm the right way or not using enough spermicide); to continue use of the method (for example, forgetting to take your birth control pills or not using a condom every time you have sex); and failure of the contraceptive method itself.

Myths or personal concerns about the risks and safety of certain birth control options also contribute to incorrect use of birth control. Women may use a particular method only occasionally, for example,
dr martens original Birth Control and Contraceptions Fresno CA
thinking that less frequent use is safer than continuous use. Or they may stop using a particular method because of bothersome side effects.

Age related changes can lead women to believe they no longer need to use contraception. For example, women nearing menopause may mistakenly think they are no longer fertile because their menstrual cycles are no longer regular. However, about 38 percent of pregnancies that occur in perimenopausal women are unintended. Although menopause does mark the end of a woman’s childbearing years, you have not gone through menopause until 12 consecutive months without a period. You can get pregnant even if your periods are irregular.

Today, American women have more contraceptive options to choose from than ever before. So you should be able to find one that works well for you and fits your lifestyle.

Other things to consider before making a contraception choice:

Find out how much the contraceptive costs. Do you have to pay for it all at once or can the cost be spread out over a year? Will your health insurance cover it?

Ask yourself if you can realistically use this method. Are you sure you understand how to use it properly? Will this method embarrass you or your partner? Does it fit with your lifestyle?

Find out how to use the method correctly and what to do if you forget to use it occasionally.

Ask your health care professional about side effects. What should you expect? What should you do about them if they occur, and when should you expect them to stop?

Will this method cause any unacceptable weight gain?

You can probably think of many more questions about birth control. Learn as much as you can about your options and make an informed decision about which method is the best and safest for you. Consider your needs and discuss them with your health care professional during your next medical appointment. Food and Drug Administration (FDA),

doc martens girls Birds have strategies for adapting to extreme cold

As we gathered around the family room, playing card games and typical family shenanigans, on New Year’s Eve, every channel on TV showed the celebrations in New York with the TV anchors seeming to only discuss how cold the weather was. Temperatures were hovering near 0 degrees in New York, yet where I was in Grand Forks, the temperatures were near 15 with 35 to 40 wind chills . New Yorkers, you have nothing on North Dakotans.

When temperatures of mid winter start dropping to the zero mark,
doc martens size 4 Birds have strategies for adapting to extreme cold
my mind slips to wondering why we live here, where we get cold temperatures and snow for nearly six months of the year. I think, maybe we are crazy. We take a major risk by living in this frozen landscape, but we have great comforts that allow us to live in warmth in our homes. We trust and hope that our power will stay on and that our furnaces run to provide this warmth.

A huge thank you must go to those providing energy to keep the warmth. Gets me back to thinking again “why” do we live here. My thoughts then drift to warmer days of spring and summer with green grass between our toes, birds chirping and calling in the fields around us, lakes and streams teaming with fish and the sights and sounds of a good thunderstorm dropping much needed rain. These are the reasons I live here and call North Dakota home.

With these cold temperatures, my mind drifts to thoughts of these creatures that call this frozen prairie home. The birds amaze me. These small critters have many superb adaptations that allow them to survive in the most frigid conditions. Birds are warm blooded animals that have a much higher metabolism,
doc martens size 4 Birds have strategies for adapting to extreme cold
and thus higher body temperatures, than humans. An average bird’s body temerature is 105 degrees. Body temperatures can fluctuate during the day, depending on climate and activity.

Some physical adaptations that birds possess include feathers, specialized legs and feet, and fat.

Feathers: Feathers provide remarkable insulation and many birds grow extra feathers as part of a late fall molt to give them thicker protection. The oil that coats birds’ feathers also provides insulation as well as waterproofing.

Legs and feet: Birds’ legs and feet are covered with special scales that minimize heat loss. Birds also can control the temperature of the legs and feet separately from the body by constricting blood flow to their extremities, thereby reducing heat loss.

Fat reserves: Birds build up fat reserves to function as insulation and extra energy for generating body heat. They gorge themselves in the fall, giving them an extra fatty layer before winter.

Tucking: Birds will stand on one leg or crouch to cover both legs. They will also tuck the bills into their feathers for protection and to breathe air that’s been warmed from their body heat.

Sunning: Birds will take advantage of solar heat on sunny days. They will turn their backs to the sun,
doc martens size 4 Birds have strategies for adapting to extreme cold
thereby exposing the largest surface of their bodies to the heat and will raise their feathers slightly. This allows the sun to heat their skin.

Shivering: Birds will shiver to raise their metabolic rate and generate more body heat as a short term solution against extreme cold.

Roosting: Many birds gather in large flocks at night and will crowd together in a small, tight space to share body heat. Individual birds choose roost spots that may have residual heat from the day’s sunlight, such as close to the trunk of a tree or near any dark surface.

Another unique adaptation that some birds utilize to survive northern winters is torpor. Many birds enter torpor to conserve energy during cold winter nights. Torpor is a state of reduced metabolism when the body temperature is lowered, therefore requiring fewer calories to maintain the proper heat. Most birds can lower their body temp by a few degrees, but torpid birds can lower their body temp by as much as 50 degrees. Torpor can be dangerous, however, as the reduced temperature also leads to slower reactions and greater vulnerability to predators.

The recent cold snap makes me think we are crazy for living here and that wildlife have developed some incredible adaptations to live and thrive here in this state with extreme weather conditions.

t was one of those sightings that birders live for.

Jim Edsall of Dartmouth was doing a routine scan of the gull population at McCormacks Beach in Eastern Passage on Sunday afternoon when a particular bird caught his attention.

bird almost looks exactly like a black backed gull but it much, much smaller and bulkwise it about half the weight, Edsall said in an interview Wednesday. I saw it, I knew it was something good so I got some pictures. I could tell the legs were kind of greenish. A black backed gull legs are quite pink. gull was resting beside a black backed gull so Edsall was able to immediately gauge the specimen unusually small size.

He took some photos of the gull on the ground and in flight and sent them to a birder friend who specializes in gulls, who confirmed Edsall suspicions.

It was the first confirmed sighting in Nova Scotia of a kelp gull and only the fourth sighting in Canada. The gull was spotted again at McCormacks Beach as recently as Wednesday morning.

CLINTON Biochemtex will be locating its new cellulosic biofuels production operations in Sampson County. The company and its partners plan to create 65 new jobs and invest approximately $200 million over the next three years.

“Biochemtex’s decision is further proof that the biofuels industry is positioned for growth across our state,” said Governor Pat McCrory in a press release announcing the company’s plans. “We have the qualified talent, strong business climate, and attractive quality of life that companies need to succeed. We also have the agricultural capacity and flexibility to provide profitable energy crop options for North Carolina farmers and cost advantaged cellulosic feedstocks for Biochemtex and the advanced biofuels industry.”

Biochemtex is a global technology solution provider specialized in biofuels and renewable chemicals. Biochemtex will operate in North Carolina as Carolina Cellulosic Biofuels, which was established in early 2013 as a Special Purpose vehicle for delivering the first commercial scale cellulosic bio refinery utilizing purpose grown energy crops in North America. This new plant will produce 20 million gallons per year of cellulosic biofuel from locally grown energy crops,

Kansas freshman and presumed one and done forward Billy Preston is officially moving on from the University of Kansas and signing with a professional basketball team in Bosnia.

Preston never suited up for the Jayhawks after an on campus incident kept him sidelined for NCAA eligibility reasons.

Bill Self released the following statement Saturday morning confirming the news:

can confirm that Billy Preston is foregoing his eligibility to play at Kansas and has signed with a professional team in Bosnia. Billy family has been very upfront telling us that his first choice was to stay at Kansas, but with the uncertainty of the situation they needed to look at other potential options. This opportunity in Bosnia came with a deadline for a decision, and the family reached that decision Friday afternoon.

We are all disappointed that Billy never had the opportunity to experience college basketball competition but we certainly support him and wish him the best. Although he has been frustrated with the situation, Billy attitude has been tremendous and he has developed as a person and as a player. I sure that will continue as he prepares for his professional career. WNStoryBody >

She talks to Ruth Campbell

BILLIE Marten is on her way from Manchester to Bath when we talk, fitting in interviews between gigs. Her new single, Bird was named Hottest Record in the World on Radio One two weeks ago. The station’s Annie Mac named it Record of the Week.

Then, just a few days ago, singer Ed Sheeran tweeted his 15.5m followers to say he thinks Billie’s new single, out on November 13, is ‘stunning’. But Billie, who is signed to Sony Music’s Chess Club, has other things to think about too. Because she’s just 16 years old and in the middle of trying to finish an English essay.

Having written and recorded her second four track EP, As Long As, while studying for her GCSEs, she is now in sixth form at Ripon Grammar School and also has French and art homework to complete during this,
dr marten high heels Billie Marten looks set for stardom
her first tour.

Billie, who only had her tooth braces removed in January, looks like a typical indie style teenager. Dressed in skinny black jeans, a hand me down hoodie and her trademark Dr Marten boots, this quiet and unassuming schoolgirl rarely wears makeup and tends to shy away from attention. “I prefer an intimate little dark stage,” she says.

She started writing songs when she was nine and took the music world by storm three years later when her mother put a video of her singing on YouTube to show her grandparents in France. It got hundreds of thousands of hits. “It went crazy,” says Billie, who squirms with embarrassment now at the mention of that first video.

Two of the big mainstream TV talent shows approached her after that, but Billie and her family turned them down. They decided to sign with a management team who would let her concentrate on developing her music. “I don’t want to be famous,” says Billie. “I just love music, it makes me happy.”

She comes from a musical family. “We had David Bowie playing in the car instead of nursery rhymes when I was little. I listened to my parents’ Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake and John Martyn records,
dr marten high heels Billie Marten looks set for stardom
” says Billie, who performed her first gig, on the bandstand at Ripon Racecourse, shortly after her YouTube debut. Sally and Andy soon found themselves acting as her ‘roadies’.

This is Billie’s first time away from her family on tour. Sally confesses she feels a little nervous. “But there comes a point when you don’t want your mum and dad carrying your guitar everywhere,” she says. She and Andy have been careful to ensure Billie retains creative control, turning down a number of major record labels for that reason. “Song writing is key,” says Sally.

Billie also resists any attempts at a glam, record industry makeover. When filming the video for Bird, she turned down the stylist’s outfits, preferring to wear her old Levis black shorts, stripy shirt and Doc Martens instead. “It’s important to carry on being you. I would hate to be caked in make up and won’t stop wearing my jeans and Docs,” she says.

House Minority Leader David Toscano filed a bill this week that he said aims to clarify what’s allowed now under a law designed to protect war memorials.

The long simmering debate about what to do with symbols of the Confederacy was renewed this summer after a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville,

doctor martens sandals bill would empower towns to limit marijuana odor

St. Johnsbury Police Chief Tim Page wants his town to be able to classify marijuana odor as a public nuisance, which requires approval from the Legislature. Page spoke to the House Committee on Government Operations on Thursday, March 1, 2018.

“I feel, as a non marijuana user, that I should not have somebody else’s use impact my life,” said South Burlington Police Chief Trevor Whipple, who spoke in favor of the bill Thursday at the House Committee on Government Operations.

Whipple acknowledged that he has never received a complaint about odor from medical marijuana, which has been legal in Vermont since 2004, nor does his department receive many complaints about cigarette smoke.

“Arguably, it’s a stronger odor than cigarette smoke,” said Rep. Jim Harrison, R Chittenden.

The state’s adult use marijuana law, which takes effect in July, prohibits people from consuming marijuana in public places, including streets, sidewalks and hotels.

H. 819, which was introduced at the request of officials in St.

“We don’t want it to be so overly restrictive that it denies the person their right of use,” said St. Johnsbury Police Chief Tim Page, who spoke in favor of the bill.

Gov. Phil Scott’s marijuana commission supports the bill, as does the Vermont League of Cities and Towns.

Under Vermont’s legalization structure, landlords may prohibit tenants from consuming marijuana, and tenants who want to grow cannabis plants must obtain written permission from their landlords.

Angela Zaikowski, director of the Vermont Apartment Owners Association, questioned whether marijuana nuisance ordinances are necessary. She worries that landlords could be fined for their tenants’ marijuana smoke.
