Dr. George Andrew Szekely, 79, of Lansdale, died Sunday, July 13 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Sandra Sue (Martens) Szekely, who died December 8, 1997. Born: Born September 24, 1934 in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late George and Margaret (Finlayson) Szekely. Personal: He graduated Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey in 1953. He completed his chiropractic degree at Palmer Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1956. He and Sandra moved to Lansdale in 1957 where he started Szekely Chiropractic Center at 608 West Main Street in the front parlor of Alberta Mininger’s home. He retired in 2008 after 51 years in practice. George was a member of the Lansdale Lions and the Perkiomen Lodge No. 595, F AM in Red Hill. He loved working on his farm in Hatfield and Franconia Townships until 2006. There he raised Scottish Highland cattle, peacocks, chickens, geese, swans and a Sicilian donkey. He also loved gardening, hunting and fishing, and traveling to the Caribbean. But most of all, he loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Summers by the pool and Christmases were his favorite times of the year with his family. Survivors: Survivors include his children, Susan DePolo and her husband, Peter, of Colmar, Deborah Lobko and her husband, Richard, of Virginia Beach, Holly Barnes and her husband, Jay, of Hatfield, Dr. Kevin Szekely and his wife, Michelle, of Australia, Dr. G. Andrew Szekely II and his wife, Szilvia, of Lansdale, and Tiffany Brunner and her husband, Michael, of Lancaster; 21 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; and his companion of 15 years, Joan Whiteley. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel; great grandson, Anthony, Jr.; and two brothers, Thomas Szekely and Robert Szekely. August 1, 2014 at Huff Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale. Interment will be private.
