Transient business demand continues to wane at North American hotels,
according to advance booking data from TravelClick’s May North American Hospitality Review. Transient business bookings for the second quarter are down 0.5 percent from this time last year,
while average daily rate is up 0.7 percent. In the group segment,
second quarter bookings are up 3.3 percent and ADR is up 1.3 percent from last year. In spite of those positive results,
TravelClick senior industry analyst John Hach said the group booking pace for the second quarter decreased 10 percent between April and May. Third quarter bookings show improvement,
with transient business reserved occupancy up 4.1 percent and group reserved occupancy up 8.3 percent. The May NAHR examines group sales commitments and individual reservations in 25 major North American markets for hotel stays booked by May 1, 2016 for the period between May 2016 to April 2017.
